And in those days had great among men, and raged in their heartsThe idea of Satan raging in the hearts of men is only found one other place in the scriptures. In 2 Nephi 28:20, we read
For behold, at that day shall he in the of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.Nephi is prophesying of a future time, but doing so he seems to be making an allusion to past times that might have been written about on the Brass Plates and later revealed to Joseph Smith as the Book of Moses.
The second connection is in Ether 8:9
Hath he not read the which our fathers brought across the great deep? Behold, is there not an concerning them of , that they by their plans did obtain kingdoms and great glory? The Jaredite account is heavily abridged and doesn't initially mention that Jared and his brother brought records across the "great deep" to the promised land. But here it is mentioned in passing. Apparently, they contained an account of people of old obtaining kingdoms and great glory by secret plans. Such an account is not found in Genesis 1-10 in the Old Testament (covering the period before the Tower of Babel when the Jaredites left) But in Moses 6:15, just after the part quoted above, we read
a man’s hand was against his own brother, in administering death, because of , seeking forWe don't know anything about the record brought to the promised land by the Jaredites and what it contained other than this description, but it's interesting to note that it matches something that is recorded in the Pearl of Great Price and not the Old Testament.
