Here is the pattern:
- Angels are sent.
- They call men to repentance.
- They "fulfill" and "do the work of the covenants" of the Father.
- This is accomplished by declaring "the word of Christ" ...
- ...unto "chosen vessels of the Lord."
- The chosen vessels bear testimony of Him.
- By so doing, God "prepareth a way" for the residue of men to have faith in Christ...
- ...so that the power of the Holy Ghost can have place in their hearts.
Adam and Eve:
4 And Adam and Eve, his wife, the name of the Lord, and they heard the voice of the Lord from the way toward the Garden of , speaking unto them, and they saw him not; for they were shut out from his .
5 And he gave unto them commandments, that they should the Lord their God, and should offer the of their , for an offering unto the Lord. And Adam was unto the commandments of the Lord.
6 And after many days an of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me.
7 And then the angel spake, saying: This thing is a of the of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of and .
8 Wherefore, thou shalt do all that thou doest in the of the Son, and thou shalt and upon God in the name of the Son forevermore.
9 And in that day the fell upon Adam, which beareth record of the Father and the Son, saying: I am the of the Father from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast thou mayest be , and all mankind, even as many as will.
10 And in that day Adam blessed God and was , and began to concerning all the families of the earth, saying: Blessed be the name of God, for because of my my are opened, and in this life I shall have , and again in the I shall see God.
11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had , and never should have good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.
12 And Adam and blessed the name of God, and they made all things unto their sons and their daughters.
13 And came among them, saying: I am also a son of God; and he commanded them, saying: it not; and they believed it not, and they Satan more than God. And men began from that time forth to be , sensual, and devilish.
14 And the Lord God called upon men by the everywhere and commanded them that they should repent;
15 And as many as in the Son, and repented of their sins, should be ; and as many as believed not and repented not, should be ; and the words went forth out of the mouth of God in a firm decree; wherefore they must be fulfilled. (Moses 5)
Enoch
26 And it came to pass that Enoch journeyed in the land, among the people; and as he journeyed, the of God descended out of heaven, and abode upon him.27 And he heard a from heaven, saying: , my son, unto this people, and say unto them—Repent, for thus saith the Lord: I am with this people, and my fierce anger is kindled against them; for their hearts have waxed , and their are dull of hearing, and their eyes see afar off;47 And as Enoch spake forth the words of God, the people trembled, and could not in his presence.52 And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be , even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of and truth, which is , the only which shall be given under heaven, whereby shall come unto the children of men, ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask, it shall be given you. (Moses 6)
Enoch continues to teach the people, and we get these words:
62 And will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear of mine Only Begotten; his from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called , a . (Moses 7)
Noah
After Enoch and his people were taken up, we get this verse:
2 And it came to pass that Methuselah, the son of Enoch, was taken, that the covenants of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he made to Enoch; for he truly covenanted with Enoch that Noah should be of the fruit of his loins. (Moses 8)
Noah had been left behind to give the people one more chance.
19 And the Lord after his own , and commanded him that he should go forth and his Gospel unto the children of men, even as it was given unto Enoch.
20 And it came to pass that Noah called upon the children of men that they should ; but they hearkened not unto his words;
...
23 And it came to pass that Noah continued his unto the people, saying: Hearken, and give heed unto my words;
24 and repent of your sins and be in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, even as our fathers, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost, that ye may have all things made ; and if ye do not this, the floods will come in upon you; nevertheless they hearkened not. (Moses 8)
