The two ways in 1 Nephi 10

I'm skipping over many good examples in chapters 4-9, which I plan to get to in the near future, but these verses jumped out at me in a new way tonight:

18 For he is the same yesterday, today, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him.
19 For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round.
20 Therefore remember, O man, for all thy doings thou shalt be brought into judgment.
21 Wherefore, if ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation, then ye are found unclean before the judgment-seat of God; and no unclean thing can dwell with God; wherefore, ye must be cast off forever.
22 And the Holy Ghost giveth authority that I should speak these things, and deny them not. (1 Nephi 10)

What I see in these verses is a structured outline of the two ways. Verses 18 and 19 detail the qualities and rewards of those who following the way of life, flanked by past/present/future references and surrounding an obvious temple reference.

After that, in verse 20, we have a reminder of the final judgment, followed by a description of the actions and consequences of those who choose the way of death in verse 21.

The passage closes with a statement of authority.

This is yet another example of how the structure of the words adds a layer of meaning beyond the words themselves.

The way of life transcends time and leads to Christ. The way of death leads to a certain condemnation at the day of judgment, followed by a permanent separation from God. The Holy Ghost will either lead us to an understanding of the mysteries of God or to our own condemnation at the judgement if we do not heed its promptings.
